Best Back-to-School Calculator for High Schoolers
62
It was a few weeks before the start of my freshman year in high school. My mom took me to Walmart for some last minute school shopping, for Sharpies, notebooks etc. Mainly what I needed was a good calculator because I would be starting algebra. As I perused the aisle of calculators, I settled on a Casio fx-115 ES. A scientific calculator with a hefty manual in the back of the package but the box said it was good through to trigonometry so on sale for $12.99 I took it. Little did I know how grateful I would be down the road!
The Casio that I bought is capable of multiplying, dividing, adding, and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers, square roots, matrices, logarithms, trig functions and more. The Casio is very easy to use after only a few moments spent with the manual (if you are doing more advanced functions) and algebra was made much much easier.
One of my favorite features of the Casio is the textbook display. With a large screen, directional cursor, and delete button, you can input an entire problem just as you see it in your textbook, and if you make a mistake, you can scroll within the problem and delete and/or insert characters into the problem. The only thing this calculator doesn't do is graph.
With a pantheon of features, and an easy to understand (albeit hefty) manual, the Casio fx-115 ES is the best pick for your back-to-school teen.

Good stuff Mogan. I'm actually in the market, & you've convinced me to get the Casio fx-115 ES or the step up that has graphing capability. Thanks! - Greg
