When you home-school your child (children), staying cooped up in the house loses its charm after a while. Not only is it boring, but it isn't good for their social development. When my Mom home-schooled my younger brother and I, we were always on the lookout for fun things to do that would give us all a change of scenery.

The beauty of home-schooling is that you create your own schedule, and therefore you aren't restricted to the weekends for your activities. Childrens' museums are a great way to give your kids a fun interactive experience that is also educational. In Seattle, there are two excellent museums, one in the Seattle Center, and the Pacific Science Museum. In the Seattle Children's Museum, your kids can see interactive exhibits from places around the world, ancient Egypt, Mexico and other exotic locations. And the Pacific Science Museum has tons of fun rotating exhibits featuring any "ology" your children could think of. Nearly everything in the exhibits from the prairie tornado simulators, to the technology exhibits, are interactive and "touch-friendly." This kind of experience isn't entirely unique to the Pacific Northwest, it's really easy to do an online search and find places like these in your area. Or just by keeping an eye out for activities featured in your local newspaper or magazines.

Utilizing the internet and your local publications is also a great way to find opportunities for your kids to join sporting events, take art classes, or join clubs. The choices are endless. All it takes is a little resourcefulness and you can take our child's education to the next level.
