If You Have Wavy Hair

Wavy hair. The schizophrenic of all the hair types. For those of us that have it, you know the benefits, and frustrations of naturally wavy hair. It’s easy (sometimes) to go straight, or scrunch in some mousse and go curly. It can be elegant or care-free and casual. And now that some of the world has realized that burning out your natural waves with damaging heat treatments isn’t all that attractive (much less healthy) in the long run, natural waves are creeping into high fashion.

However, the maintenance of wavy hair is far from simple. The common problems most women encounter with wavy hair are frizz, dryness, and unmanageability due to the hair’s thickness coupled with the afore-mentioned cons to waves. The key to having nice attractive waves in your hair is moisturizing. Finding a shampoo and conditioner, and if necessary, a de-frizzer, that works is also important (in the links below you’ll find sites that list some of the said products). I myself have wavy hair and I deal with all the challenges mentioned above, however my hair type is very very fine, so products can tend to build up in, or weigh down my hair. thus making the search even harder. However, from personal experience, I can recommend a few tips/pointers.

For frizzy and/or dryness, use products that are primarily natural-ingredient based, and with little or no sulfates in them. Sulfates dry out and ultimately damage hair, causing frizz, especially in thinner hair. A shampoo and conditioner set that works exceptionally well in this area is the Organix line. Over 25% of all the ingredients in the shampoos and conditioners are natural and non-chemical based. They come in a variety of exotic scents such as shea butter, tea tree mint, lavender soymilk, and white tea grape seed to name only a few. In the time I used it the product never built up in my hair or left it greasy.

For de-frizzers my choice is a two-step process involving two products, a combo between Neutrogena’s Triple Moisture Silk Touch leave-In Cream, and Tresseme’ Tres Extra Hold Mousse. Apply the leave-in cream first to freshly washed hair immediately followed by the mousse. Towel dry and style as desired. The leave-in cream provides the necessary moisture, while the mousse holds waves in a cohesive shape that also reduces frizz.

Hopefully you have found these tips useful, as they have worked well for me in the past. Use them and/or try new things until you find something that works well for you, after all everyone's hair is different.
