This is a sweet book about a young girl and a big dog that brings a whole town together. The main character is a ten year old girl named Opal, who has moved into a trailer in Florida with her single father. One day in the grocery-store, a huge shaggy dog bounds into the store reeking havoc. Opal manages to get the dog calmed down and in an instant, falls in love with him and christens him Winn-Dixie after the store.
As Opal and Winn-Dixie get to know everyone in the town, they face their fears together and learn life lessons through their adventures together.

This book is about about two English kids, Peter Schock and Kate Dyer. While chasing Kate's dog Molly they get transported back in time to 1763 through her father's anti-gravity machine. As they try to get their bearings and get back home they meet a cut-pusre named Gideon who travels with them in their quest to return to the future. In the mean-time they cross the insidious Tar-Man, who is somehow connected to Peter, Kate, and the anti-gravity machine, in a dark plot that threatens the fabric of time.
"Inkheart" By, Cornelia Funke
I think we have all wished at one time or another, that we could jump into our favorite books and live along-side our favorite characters. In this book, the characters have come out of their pages and into real life.
The story follows a twelve year old girl named Meggie who lives with her father (a book-binder) in Italy. She knows almost nothing of her mother, her father says that she left when Meggie was three. One night, Meggie overhears a stranger talking with her father. The next morning, Meggie's father tells her that she has to pack a bag, and get ready to leave for her Aunt Elinor's. It is there that she begins to realize that there is more to her fathers past than she knows about. Meggie soon finds out that her father has a strange power. When he reads a book out loud, characters, objects, animals, come to life outside from the pages. The only problem is that the characters read out of a special, rare book, have come back and are after her father.
This book was also made into a movie in 2009 starring Brendan Fraser and Mirabel O'KeefeĀ
"The Year of Secret Assignments" By, Jaclyn Moriarty
This is a book about three best friends, Lydia, Emily, and Cassie. They all get an assignment from their teacher asking them to write a letter to someone at Brookfield, a rival high school. One letter leads to another and soon the girls find new and exciting friendships in their pen-pals. Some work out better than others but in the end it turns out to be an awesome year as the girls learn more about themselves and eachother.

I agree with K9.
The only book I've read is Because of Winn-Dixie. I've always wanted to read Inkheart but never had the chance. I can use this Hub to buy one of my cousins a Christmas gift. Thanks.
I loved Inkheart, too. I'd add Ella Enchanted to the list and anything by Sharon Creech.
Excellent choices. Great Hub.
